Liatris Spicata, commonly known as Blazing Star or Gayfeather, is an exotic perennial plant of North American origin. It blooms in slender spikes of bright purple flower clusters. Its leaves, shaped like grass blades, are mostly concentrated at the base of the plant and trail up the stem. Liatris spicata is an excellent late summer flower that’s great for cut flower use. It also attracts wildlife, especially bees and butterflies.
While it typically grows 30 to 35 inches tall, at optimum growth the Blazing Star can reach heights of up to 4 feet. For best results, plant in well-draining soil in an area that provides full sun.
